This isn't about who had the best career. This is about the best players, period. We won't punish anyone because of their weak competition, but if newer players have the advantage of humans getting bigger and faster and better over time, then too bad for the old guys. This is basically a giant pickup game [...]
A list of the worst picks in Knicks history could very well include every pick they've ever made outside of Patrick Ewing and Kristaps Porzingis, but we would be writing that article for the rest of time. Here are the 10 worst they have ever made: Honorable Mentions Charlie Ward Yes, you are seeing that [...]
Authorities in Peru seized an estimated 85 million dollars worth of cocaine on Wednesday, most of which was in packages containing the name and picture of Lionel Messi. We know what you're thinking there'd be a whole lotta money in the athletes-sponsoring-narcotics market. Just us? Cool. Obviously, the greatest soccer player on the planet [...]
Femi Oyeleye arrived at Los Angeles International Airport last March, a dreamer in a sea of dreamers. He had nothing but his bags, a friend's phone number, and a pair of really fast hands. Though he'd won 166 fights as an amateur and won gold at the All Africa Games the previous year, petty internal politics had [...]
You might've seen a small bullet in our ICYMI section last week about a former running back from Colorado State named Treyous Jarrells who played every college game (except one) stoned. Our Editor-in-Chief Tim Livingston interviewed Mr. Jarrells on our podcast about what it's like picking up blitzes high, using weed as medicine over opiates, and his desire to [...]
Miko Grimes means different things to different people. To her husband, Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Brent Grimes, she's simply "boo." To any of his employers, past or present, she's 1000 mosquitos carrying the Zika virus. But to us and everyone else on the fringes of the sports media business she's the gift that [...]
Jason Pierre-Paul's lawsuit against ESPN and Adam Schefter earned a major victory yesterday as a Florida judge declined to dismiss the complaint, meaning it's now free to advance to trial. The suit alleges that Shafty Schefter violated JPP's privacy when he published a picture of the defensive end's medical records on the discreet social media [...]
We mocked Adidas giving James Hard-on a 13-year, $200 million contract when it happened, but after setting eyes on The Adidas Harden 1's, aka the shoes your grandpa would wear hiking, our collective chuckle has grown more audible. The pictures leaked online yesterday and the internet did what the internet does defecated all over [...]
It's a fact: fake life is better than real life. Virtual reality doesn't have bills, crying babies, hair loss, or weight gain. It's all rainbows vivid enough to bring back college acid flashbacks and gold stars for circumventing obstacles. Nobody does imaginary worlds better than the revolutionary Oculus Gear VR, which is why we're giving [...]
Three hundred and thirty significant strikes landed, more blood than a Red Cross truck, and enough testosterone to offset an afternoon of cheese sampling at Whole Foods followed by meditation yoga: Conor McGregor outlasted Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in an instant classic already regarded as one of the best brawls in MMA history. The outspoken [...]

Hello Again, whilst researching for a book i am writing i came across this little article in a Winnipeg newspaper from 6/12/1912 it reads: RINK OPENING IN TORONTO DELAYED. An ice making expert W.J. McGee arrived from New York Monday and after a thorough examination declared that the piping at the Arena would all have to be taken up and relaid.
This meant that the ice already formed would have to be thawed out and hot water was forced through the TWELVE MILES of pipe with that end in view. The pipes will have to taken up and relaid properly. This will delay the skating and hockey practices for another week at least.
Above: The Arena. Right: This is the programme from the final game at the Arena Gardens in 1930 Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Maroons.
My love of hockey started many moons ago, I suppose my brother David is to blame, he used to take me to watch football first and Sunderland were our team, after the game we headed back into town to the leisure centre and watch some Ice-hockey. The home team were the Crowtree Chiefs and one of my first games were against the Billingham Bombers it was a local derby and quite a feisty game I remember. Although I seemed to enjoy watching the Chiefs I definitely saw a big difference in quality when we visited our other local team the Durham Wasps (O`Conner, Brebant, Smith`s, Crapper etc....). The best matchups had to be against the Whitley Warriors many a time we went to see a fight and a hockey game broke out. These were memorable times and i loved travelling around the country visiting other rinks. But my love for the game cranked up a gear when Channel 5 started televising live NHL games. I was in total awe of what I was seeing, so began my fascination for this breath taking sport. I had to find out more about all of the different uniforms, logos and nicknames. I have read masses of books and magazines and will not be getting involved in where it began or who started this game. I am interested in the hockey logo and what it represents to the fans that follow it, hence the blog. I wanted to show people the interesting logos and try to find out about other ones that could end up lost through time. Hopefully with my readers help I can gather enough information to fill a book perhaps. I know through my research their are some great works out their already ( SIHR Sweater museum, and logo database). I want to find out about the grass roots of hockey the amateur leagues [...]
