On the heels of a second consecutive missed NCAA Tournament, Indiana has decided to part ways with head coach Tom Crean after nine seasons. Crean's tenure featured some '70s Cheech highs and '30s stock market lows, epitomized this season with wins against teams like UNC and Kansas but losses to teams like Fort Wayne. From [...]
When it comes to making outlandish comments for attention and talking more out of an ass than Eddie Murphy in Shrek, Charles Barkley appeared to be in a league of his own. That was, until LaVar Ball forced himself into the public eye on the coattails of his insanely talented children. Nay, in Ball, Barkley seems [...]
Seattle said that they like Eddie Lacy's curves and want the former Packers running back to weigh-in around 240 lbs after signing a one-year deal with the team for $3 million guaranteed and $2.5 million in incentives. Most teams wanted Eddie to continue with his P90X workouts and shed pounds like patrons of a British [...]
We haven't thrown shade at our nemesis (ESPN) lately so we'll start by saying this is a big story, and as of 6:17 PT they've written nothing about Cowboys superstar running back Ezekiel Elliott a player currently being investigated by the NFL for an alleged sexual assault pulling down a girl's shirt and [...]
Star of real and fantasy football alike, twerk enthusiast slash Facebook Live connoisseur Antonio Brown re-signed with the Steelers for a boatload of money. Whether or not it's the most lucrative contract for an NFL wide receiver is up for debate and depends on your definition of "new money" versus "total value," but what's not up [...]
We're tired of writing about Baylor. Tired of beating a horse that's so dead that it feels like we're verbally flogging Orohippus fossils. But women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey added to the unbelievable tone-deafness of the most ignorant university in the country with remarks so insensitive and detestable that we had to give the awfulness that is Baylor [...]
When Jameis Winston is on a football field, he thrives. His decision-making is generally sound, his leadership skills are evident, and his ability to guide your fantasy team to victory is much appreciated by at least two members of this writing staff. However, when he's not between the lines, ole' Famous Jameis is less filtered than [...]
This is a weird one. Back around this time in 2016, TheLead was in acquisition talks with a company called Chat Sports. The founder of Chat Sports reached out to our founder (Tim Livingston), they did the song and dance, and when it came time for a term sheet...Chat CEO James Yoder vanished. "I proposed [...]
"I wanted to play two more seasons of WNBA, but the experience didn't lend itself to my mental state. It was a depressing state in the WNBA. It's not watched. Our value is diminished. It can be quite hard. I didn't like the culture inside the WNBA, and without revealing too much, it was toxic [...]
If there's anything the 2016 postseason proved definitively, it's that dominant relievers are undervalued and should be treasured like gold bullion, three-day weekends, or ingesting the perfect amount of hallucinogens at Coachella. So when Dellin Betances, one of baseball's top-five setup men, a 6'8 monster with a 97mph fastball and unhittable curve ball, asked for [...]

Hello Again, whilst researching for a book i am writing i came across this little article in a Winnipeg newspaper from 6/12/1912 it reads: RINK OPENING IN TORONTO DELAYED. An ice making expert W.J. McGee arrived from New York Monday and after a thorough examination declared that the piping at the Arena would all have to be taken up and relaid.
This meant that the ice already formed would have to be thawed out and hot water was forced through the TWELVE MILES of pipe with that end in view. The pipes will have to taken up and relaid properly. This will delay the skating and hockey practices for another week at least.
Above: The Arena. Right: This is the programme from the final game at the Arena Gardens in 1930 Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Maroons.
My love of hockey started many moons ago, I suppose my brother David is to blame, he used to take me to watch football first and Sunderland were our team, after the game we headed back into town to the leisure centre and watch some Ice-hockey. The home team were the Crowtree Chiefs and one of my first games were against the Billingham Bombers it was a local derby and quite a feisty game I remember. Although I seemed to enjoy watching the Chiefs I definitely saw a big difference in quality when we visited our other local team the Durham Wasps (O`Conner, Brebant, Smith`s, Crapper etc....). The best matchups had to be against the Whitley Warriors many a time we went to see a fight and a hockey game broke out. These were memorable times and i loved travelling around the country visiting other rinks. But my love for the game cranked up a gear when Channel 5 started televising live NHL games. I was in total awe of what I was seeing, so began my fascination for this breath taking sport. I had to find out more about all of the different uniforms, logos and nicknames. I have read masses of books and magazines and will not be getting involved in where it began or who started this game. I am interested in the hockey logo and what it represents to the fans that follow it, hence the blog. I wanted to show people the interesting logos and try to find out about other ones that could end up lost through time. Hopefully with my readers help I can gather enough information to fill a book perhaps. I know through my research their are some great works out their already ( SIHR Sweater museum, and logo database). I want to find out about the grass roots of hockey the amateur leagues [...]
